After spending time solo backpacking through Australia, I discovered that solo women travelers need an easy and safe way to connect with local women while solo traveling. They need friendship, safe accommodation, and support while abroad. I created the space I needed most:

Being hosted by a HerHouse sister is the main way our users travel. You’ll be able to connect directly with local women for friendship and safe accommodation with them.

Home Sitting
Are you looking for some longer term accommodation? Our members frequently post their homes in different parts of the world if they’re needing a sitter to care for their pets/plants while away. It’s a win-win for both parties with a free background checked sitter and free accommodation for the traveler.

Home Swapping
Are you a homeowner who would like to relocate to another city or country for a month or more? Try home swapping with another HerHouse sister in another part of the world. She’ll come stay at your place while you stay in hers. It’s another win-win with you both getting to live like a local in another country without the accommodation price tag.

I know what it's like...
A few short years ago I had just gotten out of college. Not knowing what to do with my life yet, I decided to get a Working Holiday Visa and backpack through Australia for a year.
Imagining the freedom and adventure was intoxicating. All I wanted to do was travel, meet people, and have new experiences.
Like you, I felt very nervous about going to another country not knowing anyone. I felt so vulnerable as a woman traveling alone.
But then something magical happened…
I was able to connect with an old friend outside Melbourne. She picked me up from the airport and hosted me with her family for 2 weeks. Having a girlfriend be there for me made me feel safe and supported. She introduced me to her friends and family, and I had instant local community in the country. I also saved easily $1500 by staying with Sally.
Staying with a local is completely different from hotels, hostels, or Airbnb’s. It's not a business transaction.
It's a friendship.
When I got back to the states after my adventure I thought... "I want to help other women have that kind of experience. If I could create friendships with local women in another country I know others can too."

If you’re wanting to travel in the upcoming 12 months, start reaching out to hosts ASAP so they can be ready for you!
Additionally, it’s always good to have a HerHouse membership incase you have an unexpected adventure come up and need a place to crash (or if you get stuck in a city because of a flight delay). Just reach out to a HerHouser!

In your first month, if you reach out to 3 hosts and all are unresponsive please send us an email to support@herhouse.co We will work on reaching out to these hosts with you.
HerHouse is growing every day so if there are no hosts in your desired location yet, there will be soon.

NOW. Get it now. Sometimes it takes several weeks to find and connect with hosts who have availability when you will be traveling. Reaching out to hosts several months in advance helps them plan and prepare for your arrival so the sooner you reach out the better!

None. The membership is the only fee. Background checks are covered by HerHouse.

When you request a homestay we have a 3 night max you can request. We recommend staying with the host 1-2 nights to make sure you are getting along so you can head out if needed. It’s important to have good communication and clear expectations between hosts and guests.
