Safety is the top concern for solo women travelers

In an internal survey we found that SAFETY is the top concern for 82% of women travelers.

Costs and loneliness were also top concerns.

Here are 3 things included in HerHouse that keep our users safe:

App Safety Features

  • Global Background Checks

    All members must have a passing criminal background check to be part of our community. This is included in our membership fee.

    It's easy to create a fake account on free social media platforms and catfish other people. With background checks, you can take a breath and know that this is a real person on the other end!

  • Membership fee

    There are a few reasons a membership fee is important:

    1. It decreases the risk of bad people getting on the app and spamming the users.

    2. Only members with passing background checks and a paid membership can see user profiles, message members, and request homestays

    This process of paying money and verifying identity is put in place to protect our users from people who may lure women into unsafe situations.

    Since this is a global public app, anyone in the whole world can download it. Because we have these barriers in place we’ve been able to effectively keep predatory men from seeing and contacting our members.

  • Emergency Contacts

    You’re able to include emergency contacts in your profile. These will not be visible to the whole community but they will be available to your host.

    When you stay with a HerHouse host, rest easy knowing that she will have access to your emergency contacts should anything happen.

Your safety is priority

The combination of background checks and membership fees creates a protective barrier around the community- one with mutual trust and respect for all parties.

Unfortunately we can’t guarantee your safety while traveling, but we know that having safe female connections nearby will help tremendously. When you request a homestay or get a homestay request, you can chat back and forth in the app. We also highly recommend speaking on the phone and ideally video chatting if possible before meeting up.
